'In Veszprém, in the middle of june, street-musicians are going to wander the streets in protest to the boredom of the every-days.' delineated the festival Gyula Porga, vice mayor of Veszprém city.

Many guest have attended the festival, from different cities and foreign countries as well, in group or in solo as well. Also, the festival has been an opportunity for formations less known hungarian formations. Gigs took place on highlighted stages all over the city, but of course, 'real' street musicians also attended.
The main goal of the festival of course, was to enjoy music, both the audience and the musicians, but the hungarian bands were in a competition during the week: the two best (according to the audience, and the jury) got a half million HUF prize. I'm pretty sure everyone found the music good for his taste since musicians from all over the world (France, Argentina, Italy, Australia, Chile) brought the tunes of their country for the people.

A hattagú, Strassbourgból származó, csupa pirosba és feketébe öltözött ördögi La Fanfare en Pétard a masírozó sramlizenekarok őrültebb és bulisabb változata. A csak fúvós- és ütőshangszereket cipelő zenészek különböző stílusirányzatokat ötvöző, de azért jellemzően ska-funk-hiphop performansza nehezen tűri egy színpad korlátait, így szívesen vegyülnek a velük együtt ugráló közönséggel, és fergeteges mobil showjukkal becserkésznek bárkit.

A Tolga Triót 1998-ban Amszterdamban alapította Tolga During, leginkább Django Reinhardt munkássága által inspirálva, azt ugródeszkaként használva. A trió repertoárjának nagy részét szerző Tolga a gipsy jazz mellett leginkább a balkáni, a francia és a spanyol zenékből merít ihletet. Az 1999-es Bohemia című lemezük (amelyet további hat követett) nyitotta meg számukra a különböző fesztiválok és klubok kapuit, de megjárták a nagyhírű Montreux Jazz Festivalt is.

A tavalyi fesztiválon már nagy sikerrel bemutatkozó olasz csapatot 2000-ben alakította néhány jóbarát, akikben a folkrock és az ír zene szeretete volt a közös pont. Kezdetben jól ismert dalokat és témákat dolgoztak fel, majd később saját stílusuk keresésébe és saját dalaik írásába fogtak. Ihletként szülőföldjük és tágabb környezetük legendáit kutatták fel, és nevükhöz híven (tresca – meseszövés) mesélnek a vidéki élet jellegzetességeiről, szokásairól, furcsa figurákról.

A chilei születésű Nano Stern az utóbbi öt évben – igazi vagabondként – beutazta Nyugat- és Észak-Európát, Ausztráliát, Tibetet és Indiát. Bár először járt Magyarországon, hamar sikerült hallgatóságát hol kórussá alakítani, hol táncra bírni.

The stages built up for the festival are taking place in the Downtown of Veszprém. Unlike most hungarian festivals, in 2010 it is almost* completely free. Since most of the performers are unknown for the community, a lot of more popular names appear on the line-up as well, from or outside Hungary.

*The festival is 90% free, there is only 1 stage which requires a pass (PORT.hu main stage). Monthly passes can be purchased in the Utcazene Information Desk (Kossuth street) from the 1st of July, everyday from 10 h to 20 h. Daily tickets are also available here, but they can be bought in front of the entry of the stage area from 7 pm (just before the gig).

The very first street-music festival for me.

La Tresca, megint. Ha július, akkor Utcazene - Veszprém és a mindig szórakoztató olasz csapat. Ha most hallottam volna először, nem tetszett volna annyira, mint 2008-ban. A műsor populárisabb lett, engedve a tombolni vágyó közönségnek, a lírai dalok elmaradtak, alig hallhattuk Christian Arlechino finom hegedűjátékát. Fabrizio Virgili magával ragadta a publikumot, mint mindig, hihetetlen energiájával és virtuóz harmonika játékával. Ruben megbízható invenciózus basszusjátékkal, Peo dinamikus dobolással adott precíz alapot a zenekarnak. Szívesen hallgattam volna többet Jack fuvolajátékát is, de Billy fürge akkordjai és Alberto elektromos gitárja a tömegnek kedveztek. Talán jövőre...
